Note: Although Sita is considered to be a Hindu deity, avatar of the goddess Lakshmi, Pool rejects this in his biography. He takes a euhemerist approach to Hindu myth and treats Sita as a historical figure. The Bhattacharyya biography emphasizes mythic parallels - contrasts Sita with Eve and Helen of Troy, concludes that she "towers majestically over truth and fiction" (47)
