Note: Born in Virginia and emigrated to Virginia. Second wife of the first black president of Liberia. Sewed a quilt for the Queen of England and took it to her herself. Other sources suggest that she was born in 1818 and that her husband was born in 1809. This is consistent with the multiple conflicting birthdates that have been found in other chapters of 'Homespun Heroines.'
