Note: Famously convicted of murdering her husband by arsenic poisoning. The trial was notable because of the vast public interest in the case, and because it was one of the first trials convictions based largely on direct forensic toxicological evidence (using the Marsh Test). Wrote her Mémoires while in prison. Released from prison by Napoleon III.
